EOTC Health and First Aid

At St Joseph's School, we ensure we understand the health needs of EOTC participants and are prepared to respond to any health incidents, including injuries and illness. Our event planning and approval processes, including our safety planning and risk assessment documentation, considers the current health needs of all participants. See EOTC Event Planning and Approval.

Our usual healthcare policies apply, in addition to the EOTC-specific procedures below.

Before the event, we:

ensure we have appropriate health information for all participants, including staff and volunteers (e.g. medical conditions, allergies, dietary requirements, medications, support plans, and any wellbeing factors that may affect participation and require additional support)
ensure we have emergency contact details for all participants
determine the number of first aid-certified adults required as part of the supervision structure (with a minimum of at least one first aider accessible to all participants at all times)
ensure there is a designated person in charge of first aid
prepare appropriate first aid supplies and note the location of first aid facilities or resources (e.g. automated external defibrillator/AED).

During the event, we:

ensure health information for all participants, including staff and volunteers, is readily accessible, including emergency contact details and support plans
collect student medication and ensure dispensing instructions are provided and checked, and medication safely stored
monitor any changes to participant health and wellbeing
ensure first aiders and first aid supplies are accessible to participants at all times
ensure individual medication is administered and recorded as needed
follow infection control procedures as needed
inform parents/caregivers and relevant staff about student injuries and illness
record and report injuries and illness.

If parents/caregivers/emergency contacts cannot be contacted or cannot collect a student who requires medical care, a staff member may need to take the student to a medical facility.
