Third-Party Use of School Property

School property (buildings and/or grounds) may be available for use by third parties. For this policy, "third party" means any individual or group that wants to use the school for non-school activities, and who does not already have authority for use.

We manage any money that is received as part of a third-party agreement according to our income policies. See Income.

Requests and approval

Any third party who wants to use school property should apply to the school in writing. Applications for casual use are submitted in writing to the school. The board considers these applications and responds in writing, or may delegate this responsibility to the principal. We refer to the conditions of our Integration Agreement, our Memorandum of Understanding with our proprietor, and any Ministry of Education requirements when considering third-party use of school property. We consult with the proprietor and the Ministry as needed. Once a decision is made, the school responds in writing and arranges the appropriate casual use or lease agreement.

Considerations for approval include:

We check the applicant has any necessary local authority resource consents or licenses.

For conditions around overnight use of school property, see Overnight Activities on School Grounds.

Appropriate use

Anyone using school property must follow the conditions of use in their written agreement, and all relevant school policies, paying particular attention to:

Any issues, including damage to school property, are managed according to the written agreement. If necessary, the school may seek advice from the Ministry of Education, NZSBA, and/or a legal advisor.
