St Joseph's School
At St Joseph's School, teacher remuneration may include salary units, as determined by our roll size and the requirements of our students. Salary units are a system of payment that is additional to base salary. They are allocated to teachers to recognise particular responsibilities, and to assist with recruitment and retention.
Each year, the Education (School Staffing) Order determines our staffing entitlement, which informs the number of teachers that our school can employ, and the salary units that the school can allocate. The school determines the use of any units in consultation with teaching staff, in alignment with collective agreement requirements.
The principal is not eligible to receive salary units.
Unit allocation
We allocate units according to requirements of the Primary Teachers' Collective Agreement (PTCA). Units are not divisible, except in the case of an approved full-time job share, or if the school receives three or fewer units. Units may be allocated permanently or on a fixed-term basis, according to how many units the school is entitled to.
For the allocation of any fixed-term units, the school specifies the period of time that a teacher is entitled to the unit(s), or the task required to fulfil the allocation of the unit(s). Entitlement to the unit(s) finishes at the end of the specified period, or the completion of the task. The school may reallocate the unit(s) to the same teacher for a further period of time or further task.
If the school roll increases during the year and we receive extra units based on an increase in entitlement staffing, we allocate these as fixed-term units. The end date of these fixed-term units is the end of the school year.
