Principal Responsibilities

The principal of St Joseph's School is responsible for the management of our school and is accountable to the board and the school community.

As a full member of the board, the principal is responsible for meeting all board responsibilities. See Board Responsibilities.
As the chief executive of the board in relation to the control and management of the school, the principal:
- complies with the general policy directions of the board (Education and Training Act 2020, s 130)
- has complete discretion to manage the day-to-day administration of the school as they think fit (Education and Training Act 2020, s 130)
- implements the policies and procedures of the school and delegates responsibilities to other staff members as needed
- provides the board with information the board needs to carry out its own responsibilities
- assures the board through regular board reporting that the school complies with key legislative and regulatory requirements, that policies and procedures are up to date, and that appropriate actions have been taken – see Review Schedule and Board Assurances.
As an employee of the board, the principal is responsible for meeting the requirements of their employment agreement, including participating in a professional growth cycle. See Principal Professional Growth Cycle.
As the educational leader of our school, the principal engages with staff, students, and the school community on operational matters as appropriate.
