• Policy added for all secondary and composite schools as NZQA noted schools should have an authenticity policy that includes the acceptable use of AI.

Assessing Student Learning

• Added the following wording to for all primary and intermediate schools: "Our school supports students to understand that all learning tasks and assessments they complete should be their own work. Concerns are managed with a focus on education, and behaviour management where needed."

Visitors

• Removed reference to the Prohibition of Gang Insignia in Government Premises Act 2013 and updated legislative references to the Gangs Act 2024.

Food and Nutrition

• Added reference to the Education (School Boards) Regulations 2020 to clarify that it is a board duty to promote healthy food and nutrition.
• Added a new board assurance based on the ERO Board Assurance Statement and Self-Audit checklist.
• Independent schools did not get this update.

EOTC Event Planning and Approval

EOTC Risk Assessment and Management

• Added wording about water-based activities to the "risk category" drop-down and made the wording about identifying risks clearer. EONZ advises that all EOTC activities in, on, or near water should be deemed high risk.

EOTC External Providers and Contractors

• Strengthened the wording under "Engaging an external provider" about signing an agreement that clarifies who is responsible for implementing and supervising all health and safety measures.

School Records Retention and Disposal

• Updated the second paragraph to include record types not covered in the retention and disposal schedule and add seeking advice if unsure.

Sharing Student Personal Information with Parents and Guardians

• Updated the third paragraph under the Privacy Act 2020 heading to clarify information about requests for corrections.
