Curriculum and Student Achievement Policy

Curriculum and Student Achievement Policy

  • Added wording and board assurance note to reflect updated curriculum and performance measures, including "one hour a day" requirements for schools with year 0-8 students.
  • Updated policy to emphasise legislative requirements relating to:
    • health education
    • career guidance
    • curriculum and performance measures
    • National Education and Learning Priorities (NELP).
  • Included information about supporting programmes and resources, and monitoring and reporting on progress.
  • Moved policy information from Home Learning, and Environmental Sustainability and Management into Curriculum and Student Achievement Policy.

Assessing Student Learning

  • Updated policy title from Student Achievement Information (for primary schools) and Student Assessment and Achievement (for composite and secondary schools).
  • Emphasised NELP-related and legislative requirements.
  • Removed previously optional list of assessment tools.
  • Clarified NZQA requirements (composite and secondary schools only)

Distance Learning

  • Wording and formatting changes for clarity.

External and Private Tutors

  • Added wording about safety checking and police vetting tutors.

Religious Instruction

  • Clarified religious instruction requirements under the Education and Training Act 2020, Bill of Rights Act 1990, and Human Rights Act 1993.
  • For schools that do not offer religious instruction, updated the title of this topic to Religious Instruction Not Offered.

Religious Observances

  • Clarified religious observance requirements under the Education and Training Act 2020, Bill of Rights Act 1990, and Human Rights Act 1993.
  • Clarified school closure and attendance requirements.

Health Education

  • Clarified legislative requirements for development and delivery of the health curriculum, including community consultation.
  • Updated resources section.

Career Guidance and Learning Pathways

  • Clarified the legislative requirements for career education and guidance.
  • Added optional wording about Kāhui Ako.
  • Grouped career and learning pathways that schools may use and clarified requirements that apply to these pathways.
  • Primary schools that previously had the Career Guidance topic now have required information in the Curriculum and Student Achievement Policy.
  • As part of this update, added Safety and Welfare for Students on Work Experience (previously optional) to all composite and secondary school sites.

Exchange Students

  • Made minor wording and formatting changes for clarity.
  • Moved from Curriculum and Student Achievement section to Student Wellbeing and Safety section within the Health, Safety, and Welfare Policy.

  • Removed from sites. Relevant information added to Assessing Student Learning.
