Emergency Planning and Procedures

Emergency Planning and Procedures

  • Added information about the MOE emergency contact tool, Mataara.
  • Added bullet point about having site plans with shut- off valves, etc, locations.
  • Replaced the instruction to print "at least twice a year" with one to print whenever changes are made to any of the emergency documents.

Fire

  • Reformatted to emphasise the statement about getting everyone to safety, and to not attempt to put the fire out unless it is clearly safe to do so.

Earthquakes

  • Minor wording changes and changed the instruction about clearing away hazards to "if required, and safe to do so"

Extreme Weather

  • Added wording about warnings on MetService home page.
  • Changed high winds and tornadoes section to high winds and thunderstorm warnings and added information about tornado warnings.

Volcanic Eruption and Ashfall

  • Added "or at least improvise with a handkerchief or cloth" to the dust masks bullet point and "or damp towels" to the seal the doors bullet point.
  • Added new bullet point about not tying up phone lines.
  • In "Cleaning up after ashfall" added bullet point "Stay inside and away from volcanic ashfall as much as possible" and "Report any broken utility lines to the appropriate authority."

Gas Leaks

  • Removed bullet point about turning off the main valve.
  • Added "or landline" to "Do not operate" bullet point.
  • Removed "consider evacuating" from bullet point.
  • Added "downwind" and "vape" to bullet points.

Emergency Evacuation

  • Added "and an emergency kit" to the direction to staff to bring a first aid kit from the office.
  • Other minor edits for clarity.

Emergency Kit

  • Added wording "Office staff ensure the kit is checked and maintained, and are responsible for bringing it along during any evacuation drill or event".
  • Added foil blankets and phone chargers to the list of recommended items.

Missing Student Protocol

  • Tweaked the instruction "If the student is still missing after several minutes, some staff leave the immediate school vicinity with cellphones to search more widely, using vehicles if necessary. Staff who remain at the school continue to search the school". Schools can add a time frame if they deem it necessary.
  • Minor wording changes for clarity.
  • Other topics in the Emergency Planning and Procedures section were reviewed and no changes were made.

Curriculum and Student Achievement

Curriculum and Student Achievement

  • Added wording about meeting the expectations of the National Administration Guidelines.
  • Added mention of the revised technology curriculum.
  • Removed "and talented" from "gifted and talented".
  • Minor wording changes for clarity.

Student Achievement Information

  • Removed list of assessment tools except for an updated list on the Model site.
  • Added a sentence about monitoring, moderating, and reviewing assessment practices and delivery of teaching programmes.
  • Made formatting changes for clarity.

Gifted Students

  • Removed "and talented" from the topic title and the content of this page.
  • Also removed "and talented" wherever it appeared across the site.

Religious Instruction

  • Changed "Parental approval is given or withheld at enrolment or any time afterwards" to "Parents are required to give written consent for a student to attend the programme. Students without signed consents on file are deemed as “non-consenting” and cannot take part". This is from the new Ministry guidelines that required students to opt-in instead of, as previously, opt out.
  • Added the word "Christian" to the sentence about non-denominational programme.
  • Removed an out-of-date resource and linked to the Ministry Guidelines instead.

Home Learning (Primary)

  • Removed "2007"from beside the New Zealand Curriculum.

Recognition of Cultural Diversity

  • Added a link to Pasifika Education Plan.
  • Other topics in the Curriculum and Student Achievement section were reviewed with no changes were made.
