International Module updates
We have updated our international content in response to amendments to the Code of Practice published in March 2019. The amendments come into effect on 1 July 2019. We have also made some changes as a result of feedback from schools going through the Code accreditation process.
See Regulations to better support international students for Ministry information about the amendments to the Code, including a document with background information.

International Enrolment
- We've updated some of the bullet points to reflect new wording in the Code amendments.

- Removed the paragraph on student conduct as this has been moved into the new topic Behaviour Expectations and Disciplinary Actions.
Behaviour Expectations and Disciplinary Actions
- This is a new topic about behaviour expectations and disciplinary actions in response to Code amendments around discipline in Outcome 3.
- This topic also brings in some previous notes about behaviour from Outcome 6, which were noted under the heading 'Student Conduct' in Safety and Wellbeing.
Accommodation
- Added an introduction to this topic, explaining that students have to live with parents or with a residential caregiver.
Residential Caregivers
- We've made some substantial changes to this topic in response to Code amendment requirements and some Code accreditation feedback.
- Added a requirement for a written agreement with the residential caregiver outlining the roles and responsibilities of the school and the caregiver.
- Added a requirement to ensure a plan is in place for the transfer of care of a student from their residential caregiver to their parent/legal guardian.

This will provide clarity that it is about the school being an education provider, not a provider of services to international students in general, or to a particular international student.
NZQA and Complaints
- Removed the third party PDF link from the Resources section.
- Changed "provider" to "signatory to the Code of Practice" in the sentence "To make a formal complaint about a provider...".

International Students Resources
- Reformatted this topic to show the range of documents schools may like to link to, and have separated out the SchoolDocs sample documents (now showing at the bottom).
- SchoolDocs sample documents now only appear on school's sites if they have been adapted and adopted by schools for their use. Some of the sample documents remain available on the Model School site; others have been removed as they were based on NZQA resources that are now out-of-date.
- If you don't have a school-specific topic, a "no documents" version will replace the existing version in your document set by 1 July 2019.
- If you have a school-specific topic, any SchoolDocs sample documents in your table will be removed by the end of term 3 2019. Any school-specific documents in your table will remain.
- If you want to tailor any of the SchoolDocs sample documents for your school, download these and adapt them for your school (add your logo, change any necessary wording) then email these to us at team@schooldocs.co.nz.
Behaviour Management
- Added a sentence to this topic for schools that have the international module, noting that international students follow the same behaviour expectations but there may be additional conditions to their enrolment.
