Review Schedule and Board Assurances

International Learners Policy

International Learners Review

  • Removed reference to 1st December as the date that attestation is due, as the date has changed to March. We no longer refer to the specific date in policy.

Firearms Allowed With Off-Site External Providers

  • New optional firearms topic for schools that don't allow student involvement with firearms on the school premises but allow student involvement in off-site activities run by an external provider.

Governance and Management Policy

  • Updated objectives of school boards to match new requirements of section 127 of Education and Training Act and remove references to NELP.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • Updated policy to match new requirements of section 127 of Education and Training Act and remove references to NELP.
  • Reformatted policy and added relevant guidance from New Zealand Curriculum.
  • Some previously core wording became optional wording that can be school-specific, including new default optional wording.
  • Previous SchoolDocs core wording removed for schools/kura that link to their own Tiriti policy.
  • Updated the independent and charter school versions of this policy.

School Planning and Reporting

  • Removed references to NELP and updated policy to match new requirements of Education (School Planning and Reporting) Regulations 2023.
  • We removed reference to giving effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi from the independent school version of this policy.
  • There are no changes to the charter school version of this policy.

Inclusive School Culture

  • Removed references to NELP throughout.
  • Updated legal and regulatory responsibilities section to match new requirements.
  • Reformatted promoting inclusion section for clarity.

Student Attendance

  • Updated the policy to match new legislative and regulatory requirements, and Ministry guidance.
  • Outlined school responsibilities and parent/guardian/caregiver responsibilities.
  • Added a section on attendance management plans. State and state-integrated schools/kura are required to develop their own school-specific attendance management plans.
  • Retired/Removed Attendance Procedures from school sites when these updates were published.
  • Removed some school-specific content as this information should now be included in school-specific attendance management plans.
  • Updated the board assurance wording.
  • Updated the independent and charter school versions of this policy.

Curriculum and Student Achievement

  • Updated policy to match new requirements of section 127 of Education and Training Act and remove reference to NELP.
  • Updated wording about 'one hour a day' requirements to match requirements as described in national curriculum statements for The New Zealand Curriculum.
  • Clarified how each section of policy addresses board obligations, and separated content on support and guidance.
  • Updated board assurance wording
