What's New 2020

2020

October

After the scheduled review and as a result of the Education and Training Act 2020, we updated the Documentation and Self-Review topics. We've added a note from the Ministry of Education about new and current planning and reporting requirements, and included more options for schools to specify other information included in their charter/strategic plan.

A number of changes were made to the Employer Responsibility section, including more links to resources and related topics. We've updated references to Novopay to "Novopay/Educational Payroll" as Novopay transitions to EdPay. We also created two important new topics:

  • Staff Induction
  • Professional Development

Internal reviews included:

  • A new version of Home Learning for composite schools.
  • Added links to Getting to School Safely.
  • Updates to Theft and Fraud Prevention to a more comprehensive Prevention of Bribery, Corruption, Fraud, and Theft.

July

  • The scheduled review of Recognition of Cultural Diversity, Separated Parents, Day-to-Day Care, and Guardianship, and Staff Leave resulted in a number of changes to content and formatting.

Internal reviews included:

  • Changes to the Learning Support section to take into account Ministry of Education initiatives, including the Learning Support Action Plan (July) and the roll out of the first tranche of government-funded Learning Support Coordinators (LSCs)
  • Strengthening of the Digital Technology section, including new optional content.
  • New optional topics: Exchange Students and Transitions and Pathways.
  • The International Students section has had comprehensive updates including new topics to assist schools with their self-reviews.

April

  • The scheduled review of Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) resulted in updates to a number of topics, and a new optional topic about overseas trips.
  • The scheduled review of Sun Protection resulted in us reformatting it to bring together significant points, and making more bullet points tailorable so that schools can specify what they allow. Sun Protection was also reviewed by the Cancer Society, which accredits Sun Safe Schools.
