We have updated our international content as a result of an internal review of our topics and feedback from schools.
|
Managing and Monitoring Agents
|
- Added a definition of "agent" from the Code.
- Moved some of the content around and updated some wording for clarity.
- Added Legislation and Resources sections.
- Added sentences for schools to state if they work with a recruitment or accommodation agent.
- Added additional information about contracting agents (previously covered in the sub-topics).

Offers, Enrolment, Contract, and Insurance
|
- This section has been condensed to reduce repetition and now contains content previously in the Enrolment Process for International Students topic.

International Student Fees
|
- This topic has been simplified and no longer includes a breakdown of fees. We can link to further information, e.g. website or document.

International Offers
|
- Removed Information that is covered in the new International Enrolment topic.
- Added the requirements for the offer of place letter.
|
International Student Insurance
|
- Updated topic in response to changes to the Code of Practice. This includes adding, in relation to the student's insurance policy, "If an English version is not provided, the parents can be asked to sign something to confirm that the insurance meets Code requirements."
- Added a statement about "exclusions". Note that the Code Guidelines contain helpful information about this.
- Added detail that is covered by the Code Guidelines and removed detail that is not.

Immigration Matters

- Added a few details about monitoring students' continued entitlement to study in New Zealand.

International Orientation
|
- Moved content on orientation for parents/legal guardians of under-18s into the Orientation for Parents of International Students topic.
- Added resources to this topic.

|
- Moved some content from the International Orientation topic into this topic and reworded it slightly to say the school ensures parents are aware of what is expected at school.
- Added "Where possible, if a student is under 18, we make sure the same orientation resources are available to parents/guardians as for students."
- Updated the resources in this topic.

|
- Simplified the Monitoring and addressing student concerns section and linked to new Grievance Procedures topic.

|
- Added more detail from the Code guidelines about how schools can check students are genuinely living with parents.

|
- Updated the definition of a residential caregiver and the bullet point about hostels.
- Added wording about transfer of care.

|
- This new subtopic contains content previously in the Residential Caregivers topic.
- Reworded the content about initial checking to cover hostels as well.

Licensed Hostel
|
- This is a new sub-topic in the Residential Caregivers section that defines this type of residential caregiver and directs schools to the relevant topics to ensure the school meets Code regulations for any international students living in licensed hostels. Only schools that allow students to live in licensed hostels will have this sub-topic.

Accommodation and Welfare Interviews
|
- Updated the (highlighted) default wording about who conducts student interviews.
- Updated the wording about interviewing students, including moving the information about what questions might be asked into a drop-down.
- Updated the (highlighted) default wording about who conducts caregiver interviews.

- Updated and moved some of the wording in this topic for fuller reference to the Code and/or for clarity.
- Moved the Code definition of "international students at risk or with special needs" into a drop-down in the first sentence.

- Updated the topic to refer to all types of international student visitors, including group students.
- Highlighted the key requirements for international student visitors under the Code of Practice.

|
- Incorporated information from the old Interpreter Services topic.

Counselling
|
- Schools can now add a statement about having an on-site counsellor and/or first language counselling.
- Simplified and reorganised the bullet points.

Fee Protection and Refunds
|
- Added some wording to highlight the specific requirements of the Code.
- Removed the section on payment of refunds, as this needs to be school-specific.

International Grievance Procedures
|
- Clarified the steps to take for grievances and concerns, and added links to related topics.

International Students Review
|
- This is a new topic, combining the old Information Management and Review and International Students Implementation Audits and Reports topics.
- Added a statement (highlighted) where schools can specify who is responsible for overseeing international self-reviews.
- Updated our content about the NZQA self-review and annual attestation, and ERO reviews.
- Removed the old responsibility table from the Information Management and Review topic and replaced it with a section and a table guiding schools in their self-review of their SchoolDocs content.
