Reporting and Recording Accidents and Incidents

  • Deleted the words in italics as they were no longer correct. "A notifiable injury or illness must be reported to WorkSafe New Zealand as soon as possible, (by phone or online) and the completed forms emailed or sent within seven days of the accident."
  • Also deleted the line about minor injuries to employees, as they are not recorded in the SMS.

Sleepovers at School

  • This is a new topic based on the Ministry Guidelines of August 2017. Schools can supply details about which area/s of school can be used and term for overnight activities.

Chain of Custody

  • This is a new topic with guidelines about what to do if you find an item on the school grounds that poses a threat to health and safety, or could be connected to illegal activity.

Plant and Machinery Safety

  • Added a section about asbestos, including links to the Ministry of Education Asbestos Management pages, and WorkSafe. This is in response to the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016.
  • In the primary schools version, we've changed the bullets under Machinery to say that students only have access to machinery under supervision. This acknowledges technology education and other training experiences.

Property Reports and Checks

  • Added a bullet point about checking buildings after a disaster such as extreme weather, or an earthquake, and a link to Plant and Machinery Safety.

National Standards

  • Deleted the references to national standards in Strategic Plan, Reporting to Parents on Student Progress and Achievement, Improving Educational Outcomes for Māori Students,and Marketing and Promotion (International Students).
  • In Reporting to Parents, we also removed the wording about reports on anniversary dates for new entrants.

Curriculum and Student Achievement Policy

  • Removed reference to national standards and also updated the topic with information from the revised NAG. This includes adding wording about progress and achievement, te reo matatini and pāngarau, and good quality assessment information.

Documentation and Self-Review Policy

  • Removed reference to national standards and also updated the topic with the revised NAGs. This includes more comprehensive information about developing the strategic plan, reporting to parents, the statement of variance, and reviewing board performance.

Safety in Technology Education

  • This is a new topic to align with and link to Ministry guidelines. It's available on request and we recommend it for every school that offers technology education.

Safety for Students on Work Experience

  • This new topic is for composite and secondary schools that have any sort of work experience programmes for their students. It aligns with and links to the Ministry guidelines.
